CloudCostDB (cloudcostdb.com) is an open, static reference site built for engineers and FinOps professionals. We believe in privacy by design: we do not sell data, track users across the web, or require accounts.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
CloudCostDB operates without user accounts or payment systems. We do not collect, request, or store:
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or contact information
- Credit card numbers, billing addresses, or financial information
- Account credentials or authentication tokens
- Advertising IDs or cross-site behavioral tracking profiles
2. Standard Technical & Server Logs
Like virtually all websites, when you visit CloudCostDB, our hosting infrastructure and Content Delivery Network (CDN) automatically process standard HTTP request logs necessary to deliver pages securely and reliably.
These logs may temporarily record:
- Your Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Browser type, version, and operating system (user agent)
- Referring URL and requested page paths
- Date, time, and HTTP status code of requests
This technical data is used solely to maintain site availability, protect against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, detect malicious bot traffic, and diagnose infrastructure errors. It is not used to identify individuals.
3. Cookies & Local Storage
We do not use advertising cookies.
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_*) that let Google tell visits apart, and it sends Google your IP address, browser details, and the pages you view. We don't send it anything you type into a calculator or filter, and we don't use it for advertising. Google describes how it handles this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can block it with any content blocker or Google's opt-out browser add-on without breaking the site.
We use browser localStorage solely for functional interface preferences:

theme): Remembers whether you selected light or dark mode so the site does not flicker between page navigations.
This data is stored purely on your local device and is never transmitted to our servers or third parties.
4. Client-Side Processing & Calculators
All interactive calculators, instance comparisons, filter searches, and token cost estimators on this site execute entirely within your browser using client-side JavaScript.
The values, instance selections, or custom token volumes you enter into any calculator remain entirely on your device and are never transmitted to or logged on any server.
5. External Links & Third Parties
Our pages contain links to external third-party websites, including official cloud provider consoles, pricing documentation, and calculators (such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud). We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the privacy practices, content, or policies of third-party websites.
6. Data Rights (GDPR & CCPA/CPRA)
Under regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), individuals have rights regarding access, deletion, and portability of their personal information.
CloudCostDB has no accounts, so we hold no personal data records or user profiles to retrieve, sell, or delete. The analytics data described in section 3 is held by Google and identified only by a random cookie ID, which we can't link to you.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to site functionality or legal requirements. The updated date will always be visible at the top of this page.
